Re: [Swlfest] 2006 Fest Casting Call

Hi, John. I hope I'm not too late with this. I would
certainly be flattered to be a presenter again at
Kulpsville, particularly after missing out on last
year's event.

I have been trying to think what an appropriate topic
would be. After much thought, and given the fact that
ANARC is no more, I am wondering if people would be
interested in a round-table, open discussion on the
status, importance and relevance of our radio clubs
today.

As you may know CIDX, in January 2005, switched the
Messenger over to an "electronic only" bulletin. It
is working extremely well. There was very little
resentment to it at the beginning and that has all but
disappeared now that people see just how much more can
be done with an electronic version.

There has recently been a lot of debate on the
National Radio Club discussion groups about the
possibility of converting DX News to an electronic
version. There seems to be a real division among the
membership there.

Groups like the Worldwide Utility News continue to
flourish on the Internet, in an electronic
environment. This was one group formed on the net and
probably would never had existed if not for the Net.

The sub-hobby of QSLing has changed dramatically due
to e-mail and the net as well.

I don't know how many clubs plan to have
representatives at the Winterfest this year, but
perhaps we could draw in a few people from Naswa, All
Ohio Scanner Club, ACE, NRC, CIDX, at least, to
discuss where our clubs stand, and what the future
holds.

I think it would be a wonderful topic of discussion.
I would be very pleased to moderate it and make the
opening and closing statements.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the opportunity.

Sheldon
