Dit -dit - dah - dit -dit,
Flash! Hello DXers!!
I spent three hours over at Earl Higgins home this morning. We talked about
all kinds of things as I showed up to pick up two boxes of old DX mags
hewanted to dispose of. Lots of old DX bullitens like DX News, DX Monitor,
FRENDX among others. Gee, it like going through a time portal reliving my
entrance to the DX fraternity in the late 70s and early mid 80s! Oh, these
sure bring back lots of memories!
Imagine my surprize as the first zine I pulled out was a DX News (NRC) from
1982, and it had a musing from me in it!! Ernie Cooper titled it, "Terry's
Loop is Pooped!" That is when the dial on my loop's tuning capacitor broke,
and just spun around. I miss 'ol Lefty, and his wry wit!
There were many issues of FRENDX (NASWA Journal now), and I found my name
all over the place! Loggings, QSLs and listings in the DX Achievements
showing my rapid rise in countries heard and verified. I was doing MW part
of the time from my DXing 20+ years ago. The first couple of years I was
Short Wave only.
During the late 1970s the World Listening Service was issuing call signs. I
was WLS-2MO. In the late 1960s Rich Eddie told me that WDX numbers (call
signs) were issued, but that fizzled out. Are there any "call signs" being
issued now???
In the course of our talking Earl was suggesting that he would like to have
a DX get - together at his place in a month or two. I volunteered one of the
zany films I was involved in making, and I can bring some old QSLs. If need
be I can help cook, Bar-B-Que or help get snacks ready.
Anybody interested in getting together in the Saint Louis area?? Should be a
BLAST! I will bring a complete set of SLIDX newsletters, and they are froth
with humor!
Cheers to all!
Terry Klasek
