Re: [IRCA] Off Topic - Local Joliet Radio History - WAJP FM

Tom….That sounds like the old Low Powered WHYP AM/FM from North East, Pa. James Brownyard was the Owner, Operator, DJ, CE, and Custodian. he would get on the air in the morning, and would read the newspaper to Listeners for Local News. He would look out the Window and tell them what the Weather Report was. Often times he put an an Album side and would then go out and cut the grass or go Grocery Shopping and the record would play to the end of the side , then Skip for an hour til he got home to flip it over!! You could hear his Dog barking in the background, and things being moved in the House or Papers being rustled around.

I loved listening to WHYP "WHIP-RADIO", because you just never knew what was going to happen today!!??

They don't make stations like that anymore.

WHYP AM on 1530 Khz is now WMCE-AM from North East, PA and WHYP-FM is now WRKT-FM (Rocket 101) from Erie!!

Sure do miss those Days!!

A Shortwave PIRATE Station now memorializes these two great Radio Stations with broadcasts from time to time!!
