Re: [IRCA] KLIM 1120

An interesting thread going on right now about KLIM, a station that I honestly never held out much hope for ever picking up.  Wasn't this station -- studios AND tower -- taken out when a tornado ravaged Limon in June of 1990?

About 8 years ago when visiting Denver I took a drive out to Limon and there was no trace of KLIM.

I've never logged them from the Border Inn.  KANN-UT and KMOX-MO are most common there, but KZSJ-CA, KPNW-OR and KTXW-TX have also been logged.  Offhand I'm not sure if I've ever logged them on my trips to Colorado.  I'll have to dig up my notes from a very quick bandscan I did on top of Pike's Peak in 2004.  They only let you stay up there about half an hour so I really had to hustle.  Wish I had a Perseus back then!

I have checked for KLIM a number of times when out that way and I can't remember ever hearing on in recent years.  Same with the FM that was licensed there, but the COL on it was recently changed to Deer Trail and it is for sale.

I noticed that about the discrepancy in the license info, but that is nothing new for the FCC.  You have to remember that it is the same agency that has been licensing K calls east of the Mississippi, and W calls west of the Mississippi in the past couple of decades, so no surprise they can't even get tech specs correct.

If KLIM ever cranked up 50 KW at night in an emergency, KMOX would come unglued!

When was the last time KLIM was actually on the air?

Interesting that while the FCC says ND days, they list a two tower array so they certainly will be directional days.

Little KLIM in Limon, CO is about to become a biggie.  Limon is a little town along I 70 about 100 mi. east of Denver.  KLIM is their little 250 watt daytimer on 1120.  Authorization was just granted today for KLIM to increase to 50 KW Day with a 2 tower array, and 3 KW ND for critical hours.  They will still be a daytimer.  Their new 50 KW Day coverage will give them a city grade signal over Denver, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo.  They will also have secondary coverage over Fort Collins.  This will be a good one to listen for around sunrise and sunset when they get it fired up.
