[IRCA] From Chris Kadlec near Seoul, S. Korea-- DPRK Local-like Signals

In this new Facebook post Chris gives us detailed information on theÂNorth Korean station targeted by the 1053-Jammer (as well as other very useful facts).

73, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA)

A few local Korean groundwave clips for today: 657 Pyongyang TOH, 711 Seoul TOH, 819 Pyongyang programming, 1053 Haeju programming, 1080 Haeju sign-on and sign-off --

Pyongyang Broadcasting ("Pyongyang Bangsong") is technically programmed for a domestic audience. However, with that said, there is a good variety of programming at night (news, performances, symphony and folk music, etc.), but a lot of propaganda in the daytime. You can hear lots of mentions of Park Geun-hye, the South Korean president, even in this clip. It doesn't take a genius to imagine what the discussion is about. TOH ID is on the South Korean half hour since Pyongyang adopted their own time zone last year, UTC +8:30.

657 Pyongyang Broadcasting - Kangnam County (suburban Pyongyang) / 1500kw / April 19, 2016 1400 Pyongyang Time TOH ID / 75dBu:

KBS 1 Radio is Korea's biggest news station and is owned by the government. The DPRK really loathes this network, hence the jammer heard in the background, which occupies 75KHz of the AM band.

711 KBS 1 Radio - Seoul / 500kw / April 19, 2016 1500 Korea Time TOH / 80dBu:

KCBS (Korean Central Broadcasting Station) is another domestic network that serves the DPRK. They have more of a wider variety of programming that Pyongyang Broadcasting and a lot of the Pyongyang Broadcasting stations time-share and carry KCBS programming. The signal is weaker than the others for some reason, but it's hard to believe it's because it only runs 500kw.

819 KCBS - Pyongyang / 500kw / April 19, 2016 1345 Pyongyang Time programming / 45dBu:

This is the Haeju affiliate of Pyongyang Broadcasting and this is its actual audio at 75dBu. Korea does a heck of a job jamming the heck out of this station, but nobody would want to listen to it with this quality of audio. The station signs off at 1pm (sometimes mid-sentence) to give Echo of Unification on 1080 (also in Haeju) the electricity it needs and the 100dBu jammer in town shuts off about 10 minutes before that, leaving the frequency open aside from the weaker jammers 9 miles in the other direction that can be heard in the clip as I spin my radio around.

1053 Pyongyang Broadcasting - Haeju / 1000kw / April 19, 2016 1253PM Pyongyang Time programming / 75dBu:

Echo of Unification is the DPRK's hardcore propaganda radio machine. With 1500kw, I believe that it's still running the same loop it was running a few years ago even. It signs on at 1330 local time and signs right back off at 1532. There are no TOH IDs, only a sign-on and sign-off with frequencies, station ID, and other information. The sign-off has a buzzing sound, which started 10 min. after sign-on and is at the Haeju end of things.

1080 Echo of Unification - Haeju / reported 1500kw (likely less) / April 19, 2016 1300 Pyongyang Time sign-on / 80dBu:

1080 Echo of Unification - Haeju / reported 1500kw (likely less) / April 19, 2016 1502 Pyongyang Time sign-off / 80dBu:
