[IRCA] Domestic MWDX to Enid OK, January 22-28, 2016

--- Begin Message ---
All times and dates strictly UT [5 hours ahead of `ELT` during EST; when changing times one must also change the dates for events in the 00-05 UT period to the previous date by ELT].

Rx: mostly DX-398 with internal antenna only or PL-880; NRD-545 with ALA-330S inside E-W or inside randomwire N-S; Nissan stock caradio as specified; IC-R75 with E-W longwire; FRG-7 with NW-SE shortwire

These logs are excerpts from my daily all-band reports, mainly SWBC, also VHF/UHF, sometimes, utility, ham, which may be found in several archives without much delay, such as
http://www.hard-core-dx.com/index.php?topic=Hauser

And compiled weekly along with extensive news from many other individuals and publications in DX LISTENING DIGEST:
http://www.worldofradio.com/dxldmid.html

All my MW DX reports starting August 2011 are archived in this forum with open access:
http://forums.wtfda.org/showthread.php?6543-MW-DX-from-Enid-OK-by-Glenn-Hauser/page43

These logs are in four sections, Canada [if any], Oklahoma [if any], rest of USA,Âunidentified [if any], separated by ======= Within each, they are in frequency order

** CANADA. 900, Jan 24 at 0251 UT, monolog about goal tenders, team formerly with AHL, now at First Ontario Center, recap of a ``fun hockey`` game tonight. Surely 50 kW CHML Hamilton. Its night pattern has a notch toward us, so not normally audible. Could it be non-direxional for benefit of winter storm? But heavy snow there no big deal. Maybe just VG conditions from the east tonight.

900, Jan 25 at 0404 UT, station in English mentions Canadian Press, so presumably news source for CHML Hamilton, vs QRM unlike the clear signal I had 25 hours earlier, despite unfavorable nite pattern.

860, this time I check for other Ontarians, and at 0406 UT Jan 25, Radio-Canada ID in French over KKOW, into music, and this does loop NE, not NW, so CJBC Toronto. MusiQRM to 740 KRMG is probably CFZM too via CBL facility (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NEWFOUNDLAND. 2598-USB, Jan 23 at 0101, YL in English with weather, S8-S9. Canadian CG site shows starting at 0048 is MCTS Placentia / VCP, with ``Radiotelephony --- Technical marine synopsis, forecasts and wave height forecasts for marine areas 231, 232, 233, 234, 235, 236, 237 and 238. Weather and Wave height forecasts for marine area 213``. In a few minutes at 0107 it must cede the frequency to VOK Labrador via St Anthony. The site for this particular VCP broadcast is: St. Lawrence, island of Newfoundland.

2598-USB, Jan 23 at 0218 UT, barely audible broadcast mostly under line noise level, 0219 I can tell it`s French, probably by YL. CG schedule shows it`s one I haven`t logged before: ``MCTS Port aux Basques / VOJ - Broadcasts, 0207, Stephenville site, 2598J3E, Radiotelephony (English followed by French). Technical marine synopsis forecasts and wave height forecasts for marine areas 220, 221, 222 and 231. Weather forecast and wave height forecast for marine areas 215, 217 and 219`` -- Stephenville is on the southwest side, south of Corner Brook; Port aux Basques is at the SW corner, the ferry terminal from Sydney NS, which is how I once got to Nfld without flying (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CANADA. 2749-USB, Jan 25 at 0242, YL in English with weather, especially wind forecasts, S7, 0243 I thought Placentia was mentioned, but that would be Newfoundland not on this channel; gale warnings. CCG website shows: VCS, MCTS Halifax starting at 0240 via Sambro site: ``2749J3E, Radiotelephony, Technical marine synopsis, forecasts and wave height forecasts for marine areas 201 to 214. Notices to Shipping in South Coast Nova Scotia area. Notices to Shipping revising the position of every reported offshore exploration and exploitation vessel`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

===============

** OKLAHOMA. 930, Jan 25 at 1321 UT & 1338 UT chex, WKY OKC is open carrier/dead air; nulling what`s left, I can hear somestations but nothing IDed (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 960, UT Sun Jan 24 at 0249 UT on the way to 900 CHML, I notice that local KGWA is running `Our Miss Brooks` oldtime radio featuring Mr. Conklin. Checking website http://kgwanews.com I find a contradixion:

``ON AIR NOW --- Tom Torbjorsen 8:00pm - 10:00pm Americaâs Car Show``
He`s also on the very disorganized ``LINEUP`` at
http://kgwanews.com/lineup
and nothing about OMB (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1400, Jan 21 at 1934 UT on caradio, surprised to be getting KREF Norman past local splasher 1390 KCRC, mentioning Pauls Valley, town further beyond Norman. Is successor to onetime WORLD OF RADIO affiliate KNOR (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

=============

** U S A. 840, Jan 26 at 1910 UT on caradio, Rush, weak but clear and totally readable, no doubt WHAS Louisville KY, scarcely a semihour past local mean noon here, which I get occasionally by skywave at midday. Without it, 5 kW KTIC in NE NE can be heard by groundwave, and surely the source of a lite ~6 Hz SAH; by 1956 UT recheck the two are about equal level so we mostly hear the SAH (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1810, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1020, Jan 23 at 0135 UT, I am checking for 50 kW KCKN Roswell NM, which I have heard has got its act together, i.e. restoring its null/protexion toward Pittsburgh (and Perry, almost, and me). I`m afraid not. Maybe it`s a little better as now it`s not overriding my semi-local KOKP, but with KOKP nulled, a Spanish station with religious music is clearly audible, making a SAH of approx. 4 Hz. 0151 UT, ``para la familia de hoy`` and Spanish hymn; 0158 UT I`m standing by for an ID, but need nothing more than a mention of something going on in Hackensack, Nueva Jersey, 201 area code, i.e. source station being (100%?) relayed, WWRV 1330, RadiovisiÃn Cristiana, Nueva York (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. 1050, Jan 23 at 0133 UT, dominant signal on ALA-330S antenna oriented E/W has a New Mexico health PSA, Blue Emu ad; no XEG, and even when switching to N/S antenna, very little from it, maybe just caught in a fade, but hardly the 100 kW ND you would expect from Monterrey. So this is KTBL Los Ranchos NM (Albuquerque), 1/1 kW U3 substation of KKOB 770, with pattern going all direxions except the southern half of the compass (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1130, Monday Jan 25 at 1337 UT, KLEY Wellington KS is in dead air again (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. I`m hearing WRVA 1140 Richmond VA from 0247 UT Sunday Jan 24 with ``continuing winter storm coverage`` taking callers, dominant over XEMR. They say this will continue till midnight and resume at 6 AM (ET). Tho I occasionally hear it, this is unusual; day and night 50 kW patterns are both unfavorable for here, being NW/SE, so I wonder if they could or would go ND for the emergency? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. Re: 1340 Springfield MO, KADI Jan 7 log by gh: Glenn, the calls here have been KICK again since November (David Yocis, NRC DX News Jan 25 via DXLD)

=======================

UNIDENTIFIED. 690, Jan 27 at 0726 UT, ``La Ãnica, FM 99 y 690 AM`` non-ID amid music. Nothing fits in Mexican or US listings (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1460, Jan 25 at 0327 UT, station in Spanish catches my ear, better on the E/W antenna than the N/S. PSA by kid for ``Feeding America`` from the Ad Council; then loses out to sports talk in English. But at 0349 UT, Spanish again with another Feeding America PSA, this one by adult. Probably ID by SHVA, but can`t make it out in QRM, promo for an app and YL talk show for a bit, before 0355 T-mobile 1 ad in Spanish, 0356 State Farm in Spanish with jingles; 0358 a third! FeedingAmerica.org PSA, and something else from Ad Council mentioning ``jaiscul``, presumably = high school. Out during possible ToH ID time. NRC AM Log listings have several SS on 1460, most unlikely here, in FL, FL, GA, IL, IN, NV, OK, OR, TX, VA, WI.

We can rule out KZUE OK which is a daytimer and not E/W. Others unlikely by format are FL EWTN; NV and TX Deportes; some others look like they are musical rather than talk, but not clear. Or was this really sports rather than general talk? I can`t be sure, in which case KBZO Lubbock TX would stand out by direxion and proximity (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1500, Jan 27 at 0705 UT, blues music, in null of KSTP, which makes it eastish/westish, or at least not NNE/SSW. Several US stations are OLD or NOS format in NRC AM Log, but they`re daytimers or with negligible night power. Or I suppose it could even be GOS (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
