[IRCA] TP 26 Jan Victoria version

I'm sure I missed a number of things, with the erratic fading and all, but easily the most interesting morning in a couple of months. All Asian, big guns mostly on the low band from 1300 to 1515UT, then the high band starting popping in and out. HLAZ didn't completely throw in the towel until 90 minutes after local sunrise.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly):

594 JOAK two women in Japanese 1446UT, was in quite well as late as 1548UT
774 JOUB English lessons 1517-24UT Japanese child repeating English sentences read by an adult
828 JOBB woman in Japanese 1453UT, in and out until 1540UT s/off
1566 HLAZ choral music 1329UT, woman in Japanese; the Chinese and Korean programs didn't quite reach this level, but still pretty good

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

972 HLCA two woman in Korean 1353UT; man in Korean 1506UT
1557 Taiwan likely, various peaks from 1530UT, the last one about 1540UT with female jazz vocal 1566 HLAZ woman in Chinese 1539UT; even more interesting was choral music 1659UT, 3 and one pips, and man in Korean at 1701UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker:

1422 woman in Chinese 1542UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

693 JOAB end of Chinese lessons //774 1359UT, pips on hour, last one cleared the CBU-690splash quite strongly 846 NHK1 synchros, man and woman talking 1441UT //594 which was very weak at this time, but improved greatly as 846 faded
873 JOGB Chinese lessons // 774 1355UT
891 JOHK man talking //594 1522UT
954 maybe JOKR; man talking 1508UT and also 1526-7UT, Japanese inflection
1053 Korean jammer 1328UT
1134 man talking, Japanese inflection 1404UT
1143 soft music 1528UT
1323 woman talking 1540UT, Russian inflection? if so, CRI
1395 the mystery of the morning...quite a small echoey carrier (though hard to tell in 1380 IBOC), so maybe overmodulated, sounded like a swing vocal 1534UT, best on north Flag, slow talk by woman 1536-40UT, maybe Chinese??
1575 woman talking 1525UT
1593 man mumbling 1529UT, maybe low and high pip at 1530UT, if so, CNR1

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter)

918 1098 1161 1179 1314 1359 1494 1503

best wishes,

Nick
