Asians kicked off the month with fairly decent signals, mainly from the Koreans and Chinese. A respectable sunrise enhancement boosted up both the Korean big guns and mid-band Chinese stations to above average levels, featuring the seasonal best signal from 1044-CRI.
Â
At my 1400 start time the band sounded promising in the total darkness, with 1323-CRI's Russian service in and out at a fair level, and both 603-HLSA (with a Korean radio drama) and 1044-CRI (with its Japanese service) holding fairly steadyÂwith fair peaks. The NHK big guns were relatively subdued but 972-HLCA was hitting S9 peaks, and 1134-KBS and 1566-HLAZ weren't far behind. 1575-VOA also was holding steady at a fair level with male-female Asian language speech, and 1593-CNRI was at threshold level. Around 1420 the Chinese mid-band stations on 1017, 1035 and 1044 were all in weak audio, and 1044-CRI managed its best signal of the season (fair) at 1418. The 1035-CNR1 stations had a strong, warblingÂcarrier but weak modulation withÂtheir poorly synchronized program, while 1017 barely managed to get out of the noise. 603-HLSA's Korean drama program was joined by 603-China competition at 1445, but neither station was especially vibrant.Â1575-VOA held steady at a fair level throughout the session, but 972-HLCA was the session'sÂstrongest signal by far, in and out at an S9 level until 1505. Overall the propagation was well above average for this lackluster season, and hopefully an indication of better things to come.
