[IRCA] TP 20 Oct Victoria version
Colin called it correctly at 1300UT....quite a lot of action until
the bottom dropped about 1320UT. Then around 1420UT, a lot of
things came back. 1566 was actually noted on a recording as late as 1613UT.
pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):
594 JOAK man and woman in Japanese 1423UT equalling 590 domestics;
by 1438UT it was the strongest station between 570 and 620, and even
620 was only a few dB more. Some of that was sunrise domestic fade, but still.
747 JOIB 1259UT, briefly peaking at this level with pips and into
Korean lessons. It wasn't bad at 1419UT, just not quite this strong
Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):
774 JOUB English lessons 1413UT, matching the level at 1259UT
828 JOBB Korean lessons 1300UT
972 HLCA? pop music 1429UT, about as good as 1258UT
1566 HLAZ man in Japanese 1259UT; fade up at 1425UT didn't match this level
not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:
1053 Korean jammer 1301UT
1242 JOLF? pop music 1440UT
Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)
567 JOIK? pips at 1300UT, not much else
666 JOBK woman talking //891 1304UT
891 JOHK man in Japanese //594 1433UT
954 man talking, drowning in splash, Japanese inflection 1428UT
1188 man talking, Japanese inflection? didn't seem //594 however. 1314UT
1287 JOHR? man in Japanese? 1301UT; didn't turn up later
1323 CRI? woman in Russian? 1439UT
1386 NHK2 music, then man talking //774 1415UT
Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)
702 1134
best wishes,
Nick
