[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-30

Thanks to Dennis for his early TP report. Although the Japanese seemed to dominate in Kalama the Chinese stations were the main attraction here this morning, with many of them making their first seasonal appearance (on 603, 639, 963, 1017, 1035, 1044 and 1323). Despite their variety most of them stayed at fairly modest levels, though, with the Japanese and Korean big guns having far stronger signals.

At my 1255 start time the band was already in a pretty wild state, with the usual Japanese and Korean big guns on 594, 693, 747, 774, 828, 972 and 1566Âat vibrant levels, and weak Chinese stations already showing up on 603 (mixing with HLSA), 936, 1017, 1044 and 1323 kHz. At the 1300 TOH 1044-CRI's Japanese service was already at a fair level, and apparent Russian on 1323-CRI wasn't far behind.Â738-BEL2 was at a poor to fair level in San Francisco splatter with the usual Chinese female-voiced news, while 657-Pyongyang was also in and out of the domestic splatter. Around 1310Â1017-CRI's Korean serviceÂcame up toÂa fair level, while the multiple 1035-CNR1 synchros provided a weak echo effect at 1316. 1044-CRI seemed to have a weak KBS in its shadow during signal peaks around 1315, similar to what usually happens on the ocean coast. A presumed 936-Anhui was also having fair peaks with Chinese speech and music aroundÂ1318, while 963-CRI was at threshold level.ÂWith the exception of 603-China and 639-CNR1 the Chinese stations didn't seem very impressed with sunrise enhancement, though, and they slowly slidÂinto the noise. The NHK big gunsÂon 594, 693 and 747 wereÂputting out some serious power from 1340-1350, along with the usual 972-HLCA and 1053-Jammer. Late on around 1353 the Thailand big gun 1575-VOA also got a boost to manage good signal peaks, and there was somewhat of a comeback from 603-China, which was all alone on the frequency with Chinese speech and musicÂatÂfair levels. In addition 639-CNR1 wasÂmaking some fair peaks late on after KFI bit the dust around 1340. Overall the session was pretty interesting because of the great variety of Chinese stations, most of which showed up for the first time this season.
