The filters in Perseus (and most SDR's) are light years better than analog radios. Sensitivity is adequate below 10 or 15 MHz but not good above that. It's good at handling strong signals including long Beverages.
 
As for other radios, the current QS1R, WinRadio, Elad and RFSpace radios are more or less equals of the Perseus. They will be a little cheaper, but it seems they are not as widely used as Perseus.
