[IRCA] June Rockwork 4 DXpedition-- Ultralight Radio Loggings (Pt.2)

**738Â Radio PolynesieÂÂ Mahina, Tahiti (20 kW)ÂÂ This blistering-level African music signal was the strongest MP3 made during the DXpedition-- seriously testing the "crunch resistance" level of my Ultralight radio atÂ1228 on 6-25. Tahiti was less powerful on the otherÂfour days, however.

756ÂÂRNZÂÂAuckland, New Zealand (10 kW) On a very noisy frequency because of the 50 kW Portland IBOC monstrosity only 6 kHz (and 75 miles) away, the solid rock cliff still attenuated enough Portland splatter for thisÂweak signal to squeak through at 1247 on 6-26, // 567

**765Â Radio KahungunuÂÂ Napier-Hastings, New Zealand (2.5 kW)ÂÂ TheÂpotent signals from this low-power Maori broadcaster were nothing shortÂof amazing. Acting very much like a Kiwi big gun, it dominated the frequency completely with its Maori and American R & B music // 603

774 Radio Sport New Plymouth, New Zealand (5 kW) Around on most mornings at a fair level, this networkÂstands out from other NZ broadcasters byÂits frequent use of recorded American English. It had the frequency to itself except for a wild mix with Aussie 3LO on 6-28

**774 3LO Melbourne, Australia (50 kW)ÂÂand Radio Sport Wild, S9+ mix of these two fighting it out at 1215 on 6-28. Usually the cliff favorsÂKiwi signals, but it can turn fickle at a moment's notice. The Aussie big gun was MIA on the other four days of the trip

**783 Access Radio, Wellington, New Zealand (10 kW) Broadcaster of diverse ethnic programming, this apparent Hindi speech and music was received at a potent level on 6-28 at 1217

792 Radio Sport Hamilton, New Zealand (5 kW) Mentions of the Portland Timbers and the CFL in American English at Â1251 on 6-29; usually around each morning at aÂfair level, and troubledÂby the Aussie big gun 4RN only on 6-28

792 4RN Brisbane, Australia (25 kW) Aussie big gun was a poor second to Radio Sport, only showing up at a weak level withÂvocal music in this fair mix at 1256 on 6-28. MIA on the other four days

828Â 3GIÂÂ Sale, Australia Â(10 kW)ÂÂ Dominant in thisÂrecording with a typicalÂABC-LR network interview (// 774), thisÂAussie generally ruled the roost overÂthe weaker 2 kW Kiwi.

828Â TAB Trackside Radio Â(2 kW)ÂÂ Losing the horse race to the Aussie 3GI on most days, this is presumed to be the station with the music at the beginning of this MP3, and speech mixing with the dominant 3GI in the middle portion

891 5AN Adelaide, Australia (50 kW) Notable for its unusual weakness all five days, this South Australia big gun was anemic at best. But that was better than the new-format 5 kW Kiwi in Wellington-- which completely ran out of Magic.

936 Chinese Voice Auckland, New Zealand (1 kW) A high-priorityÂtarget during exceptional Kiwi propagation, this very low poweredÂethnic station responded withÂits best signalsÂduring any DXpeditionÂat 1244 on 6-27.ÂA North AmericanÂUltralight radio DX distance record for this power level

963 Star Christchurch, New Zealand (10 kW) Not one of the stronger Star (Christian hymn network) outlets, but usually hanging around at a fair level //Â657 justÂafter 1230Âeach morning
https://app.box.com/s/2qdrcwnsbnkssrxggq7hyyexsxr6tlgc ÂÂ

1008 Newstalk ZB Tauranga, New Zealand (10 kW) Pretty good signals with call-in talk program at 1232 on 6-26; thisÂstation was occasionally better thanÂits 1035 kHz parallel

1017Â UnID-DUÂÂ Both Tom and I made determined efforts to go after Tonga, but with tough Spanish-language splatter and aÂvariable sign-off time weÂonly came away with a decent carrier around 1200 on 6-27. Unfortunately that carrier dropped out suddenlyÂfor both of us before we could dig any audioÂout ofÂthe 1020-Spanish splatter. For me, the brutal Spanish splatter also covered up any otherÂweak DU audio on 1017.

**1035 Newstalk ZB Wellington, New Zealand (20 kW) This DXpedition featured theÂstrongest signals ever from this Kiwi newsÂstation // 1008, which recently startedÂfeaturing music as well as news. This signal at 1256 on 6-29 was typical of its more vibrant moments

1503 Radio Sport Wellington/ Christchurch, New Zealand (5 kW/ 2.5 kW) This was one of several Radio Sport relays withÂfair signals, easily distinguished by their frequent broadcasts of American English. This signal was received at 1252 on 6-28
