WAGL was a regular visitor every afternoon into central Fla giving the 5kw
daytimers in Melbourne and Inverness fits during critical hours. They ran
a four tower array giving them about 270 kw to the south
Several times over the past 20 years I picked them up in Grand Turk and on
the north coast of the Dominican Republic. they squirted out about 20 kw
to the NNE toward Charlotte.
It was a sad road to the end. The station tried country, classic country
and Music of your life in the final years supplemented by religious
programs in the morning, but nothing really worked. They were into a web presence
early on selling a business directory to local businesses. I would guess
the electric bill was close to 3 grand a month. Len's demise and that of
the station were on a parallel path. Sad there was no one to carry on but
Lancaster has almost become part of the metro of Charlotte and the metro
FM's have killed local radio in the area.
As DXers we have lost a great target and it will be missed.

They also ran a DX Test in, I believe, 1976, likely during a WQXR silent
period. Easily heard, nice QSL.

Their DX test on Jan. 28, 1990 got out exceptionally well. I had a
cassette recording of that test that was at nearly armchair level. They played
"Dixie" as part of that broadcast, and WAGL's 50,000 watts were enough to
cause splatter on 1550 and 1570 at my QTH in southwest Iowa. With WBSC-1550
having been gone for a while now, there's two legendary top-of-the-dial
voices in the Palmetto State that are now just memories.

they well-heard! I think at least one other test was arranged by others,
with similar reults.
