Re: [IRCA] New to list

Hi Jim.

I do realize that the powers may not be accurate, but what's a poor boy to do but assume that the stations are running legal power.

However, it is a very legitimate point, so I think my loggings will now include the daytime power in parenthesis next to the nighttime power (or vice versa for daytime loggings).

By the way, WJJL runs 1 kW during the day, so that is still a nice catch!

And my best catch during my "Dawn Patrol" this winter was KCJJ in Iowa City, 950 miles to my west running 1 kW (10 kW). Also caught KXEL a couple of times 996 miles away, but they are running 50 kW (50 kW) LOL.

Welcome, Stan. Glad to have you on the list. The night time powers you
see listed for those stations MAY or MAY NOT be accurate in actual
practice. It leads to considerable discussion on this list whether some
stations actually turn down their power at night! We even see daytime
only operations sometimes running at night, usually due to the primary
station being on FM, and someone at the station forgetting to turn off the
AM at sundown. Also, at 6:00 AM, some stations have PSSA authorization to
run a little more power than at night, but not full day power. Jim

New to list, joined last week, but have been DXing for awhile (like about
50 years).

Tried something new this winter: AM DXing from the car while driving to
work. My daily 35-minute commute is around dawn local time, so the band can
be very interesting. I use the stock radio and antenna in my 2007 Subaru
Outback Sport and my iPhone to record what I monitor with me annotating the
times and frequencies by voice.

I suspected conditions were good this morning when the first thing I heard
was a French language station (I assume Canadian) interfering with local
WPOP on 1410. So I slid up the band, parked on 1440 for the ride to work,
and logged two new ones: WCDL and WJJL.

Sports talk station WCDL is located in Carbondale, Pennsylvania,
transmitting 37 watts, 134 miles to my west. Oldies station WJJL is in
Niagara Falls, New York, transmitting 55 watts, 334 to my north-northwest.
During my commute, the two stations took turns dominating 1440.
