Not exactly. Perseus defaults to opening the last used directory, whatever it might be. This default applies for the rest of the current running of Perseus and for subsequent runnings of Perseus.
When you say "doesn't want me to pick from the deskptop", I am not clear as to whether you mean the desktop directory or its files are not displayed, or do you mean they are displayed but you can not select them?
The more detail you can give, the better your chances of success.
