You were wondering why you could get WHBG which is to your SW with a DKAZ aimed NW but note that you were phasing against a vertical and had to reduce gain slightly for the DKAZ to phase WDRC. Therefore, while the DKAZ aimed NW would lose about 10 dB off the side aimed SW, note that the vertical is omni and would pick up plenty of WHBG which does get out quite well at sunset.
