Re: [IRCA] Another Alaskan

Hi Chris,
After years of hearing virtually no Alaskans, they became rather more common at the bottom of the solar cycle in 2007-2009. I've logged 18, pretty much all in that time period. Since then they've reverted to being pretty uncommon. I think KINY is the only one I've heard this season. The only NWT station I logged was 1340 from Yellowknife, since gone to FM as others have noted. I never heard 570 from the Yukon, and CKYL pretty much makes 610 impossible, but I did hear the CBC repeater on 990 from Watson Lake. That might be the best bet from the Edmonton area (a directional antenna to eliminate CBW would be a big help!)

Even on the JA beverage, Alaska MW stations are not at all common here.
Altho 529 Level Island is very routine but no so the BCB stations. Yukon
and NT are even less common as in "never". Something "could" be lurking on
an SDR recording so maybe I shouldn't say never....

Noted KINY this morning in spite of lousy TP conditions Chris. Didn't ID
until 1402UT, I thought it must have been a Canadian!

KTKN-930 is probably the most likely Alaskan here, but I suspect the
Edmonton listener might find that a bit rare.

As Patrick mentioned, CFWH-570 was our best bet for YT, unfortunately long
gone.

I wonder what Don Moman hears up your way?

best wishes,

Nick

I don't listen much in the mornings, but noted 800 KINY, Juneau here at
1550 UTC before heading out. I imagine this is a regularly heard station on
the West Coast, and probably a pest for the TP hunters, but it is only the
second Alaskan station for me after 1110 KAGV. I wonder if there are any
regularly heard stations from NWT and/or YT?
