[IRCA] Domestic MWDX to Enid OK, June 27-July 3, 2014

These logs are in four sections, Canada [if any], Oklahoma [if any], rest of USA, unidentified, separated by ======= Within each, they are in frequency order

** OKLAHOMA. 960, June 27 at 0502 UT, Fox-hole of KGWA, Enid but bluesy tune weakly audible, so from WABG Mississippi? NO, soon followed at 0503 UT by ``103-1 KOFM`` ID. That`s its sibling station in Enid, transmitting country format from one of the three 960 towers: first time I`ve heard any such bleedthru in many months of monitoring these 5-minute dead air DX windows.

960, June 30 at 0503 UT, KGWA Enid Fox-hole is not quite dead-air; again can barely hear some music, which matches that on 103.1, its sibling station KOFM from the same tower site. The 960 signal can still be mostly nulled audiblizing jumble of other stations, but at precise null position big hum surges, so need to rotate slighty off full null (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1340, June 27 at 0512 UT, C&W music, Dolly? Briefly dominant, seems to peak NNW/SSE just like KGHM would from Midwest City but it`s sports. Not new KGGS Garden City KS either, which is also sports. Who is C&W format around here? KIHN, Hugo in SE OK per NRC-AM log: sure would like a definite on that one, elusive in Enid. BTW, Bruce Winkelman in Tulsa reports that OK`s third 1340, KJMU Sand Springs, is silent again as of June 25, not heard since mid-April (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 550, re last report about Jim Bohannon new on KTRS:
``Unfortunately, the NRC AM Log 2013 on page xvii does not include Bohannon among ``Networks and Shows that they carry`` among many other national talkhosts``

NRC AM Radio Log editor Wayne Heinen replies: ``Glenn et al., Page xiii: Network Name Specialty:
Mt = Mutual Talk - Dist by Dial Global - Jim Bohannon, America in the Morning``

Yes, there he is, but you can`t look up Bohannon by alfabetical order in the other list. Anyhow, this will have to be updated as his network is again named ``Westwood One`` per his announcement and on his station finder page which leads also to http://www.westwoodone.com/ (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 570, July 3 at 0528 UT, here`s Jim Bohannon where unheard previously, so added another station? Suspect KGRT Las Cruces NM, atop ``RR`` QRM from Cuba, and maybe KLIF Dallas. Station finder at http://www.jimbotalk.net has been updated to include KTRS 550 St Louis which I discovered last week, but NO listing for 570s in NM, TX or SD.

http://www.kgrt570.com/ still calls itself ``Classic Country``, with no sign of Jimbo there and lacks a plain old program schedule. Break at 0529-0532 UT is filled with PSAs instead of ads, including one promo/ID mentioning 570 and 93.3 FM, but there is no 93.3 anywhere near Las Cruces. (KGRT is often audible at night despite listed 155 watt power vs 5000 watts day).

Second choice is KLIF in Dallas, and by golly they do have an FM on 93.3, per WTFDA DB: ``KLIF-FM 93.3 HALTOM CITY TX 50.0 120.0 I 93 TODAY'S HIT MUSIC CONTEMPORARY HIT RADIO``
Altho presumably not // talk on 570? Maybe an HD sub duplicates 570.

Finally brought up KLIF program schedule

which does now show Jim Bohannon UT Tue-Sat 0400-0700, Sat extended to 1000 UT. That`s some balance for far-right wackos Laura Ingraham and Dennis Miller occupying daytime 14-20 UT. Congrats to JimBo for adding another major market this week! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [non]. 590, July 3 at 0534 UT, no sign of KXSP Omaha NE, just continuous Mexican music segués, probably tropical XEPH in the DF. Hard to believe KXSP is even on the air with its 5 kW U1 non-direxional normally dominating; and 610 KCSP is inbooming as usual. If there`s an auroral zone cutoff, it`s between Omaha and Kansas City. But 1180 sports is in well, presumably 1 kW KZOT Omaha (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 750, June 26 at 0602 UT, Spanish from east/west is atop WSB making a fast SAH, no doubt KAMA El Paso TX as previously identified, way out of whack. Am I the only one who has noticed or cares? Certainly not WSB. It`s supposed to be only 1 kW at night direxional westward, but sounds like it`s 10 kW day power, non-direxional or even worse.

showing minimum at 85 degrees, maximum at 265 degrees! It`s dated 9 June 2014: like most of these plots via FCC AM Query, they show up with a very recent date as if they are constantly being updated, instead of set in stone once established. But this one is obviously imaginary compared to what we hear.

Is there anything in KAMA`s Correspondence folder about an STA allowing them to run 10 kW ND at night? No, but this dated April 11, *2013* allows them to run 250 watts ND due to tower damage:

``TLC states that on March 13, 2013 one of the nighttime only towers
was knocked down by a construction crew. Thus, TLC requests STA to operating [sic] non-directionally with a power of 250 watts during nighttime hours, which is 25% of the station's authorized nighttime power``

So now it looks like they have just recently upped power for this ND authorization already in effect. It`s been ``temporary`` for 14+ months now, and still haven`t replaced the tower?

750, July 3 at 0540 UT, quick check finds cheating KAMA El Paso still dominant with Univisión América Spanish talk; goodbye, WSB (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 910, June 27 at 0521, YL weather on ``The Ranch AM``, seems NNE/SSW. That unique slogan goes right to KJJQ Volga SD (Brookings), per Google search and NRC AM Log; 500/500 watts. Nothing heard in Russian. Night pattern has minor lobe SSW toward us, major to the NE:

** U S A. 1060, July 3 at 0549 UT, open carrier, dead air, from WSW, no doubt usual night cheater KIJN Farwell TX, since the carrier still makes its characteristic off-frequency fast SAH with anything else on 1060.00. That`s a start; have they got religion? Now all they need to do, In Jesus` Name, is turn off the carrier, too. (What`s with all the dead air tonight? Also KTOK 1000, and Radio Australia 13630) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1120, June 27 at 0518 UT, YL with religious talk in English if I null KMOX, soon losing out. No KEOR OK Spanish gospel talk or praise music to be heard tonight in that position. Seems about N/S, so probably the new KTXW Manor (Austin) TX, having flipped from Spanish, authorized for 155 watts night. Another possibility would be WTWZ Clinton MS, REL/GOS per NRC AM Log, but supposed to be 10 kW daytimer only. See DXLD 14-19:

``The Christian Preaching format of "The Word" KLGO Austin has found a new home. KLGO had broadcast most recently on 1490 until the debut of "Fringe 105.3" on April 19 moved the Classic/Texas Country KOKE-FM programming to 1490. . . new home for the format, which will take place on Monday, May 12. The KLGO format will debut on what is now Regional Mexican "La Z" 1120 KTXW Manor``. Per FCC AM Query, calls on 1120 have remained KTXW. Its night pattern is supposed to have deep nulls from NW thru NE to SE, including us and KMOX (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1130, July 3 at 0606 UT, `When Radio Was` is starting on steady signal, loopable away from KWKH Shreveport with sportstalk. Strongly suspect my closest, KLEY Wellington KS, which is supposed to run ONE watt at night vs 250 watts daytime. Program schedule is blank:

** U S A. 1220, June 27 at 0516 UT, ``WSLM, 97.9 FM with Kentuckiana weather`` from Accuweather, back to C&W music``. This Salem IN station has been cheating for months, obviously with 5 kW day power instead of 82 watts night. This gives it a great advantage over numerous other 1220 stations from Ohio to Kansas to Texas to Georgia, or beyond, which are allowed only low power at night to protect Cleveland, which itself has a tight null westward. In case WSLM is still observing its legal pattern, it`s a figure-8 slightly clockwise from east/west (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
