Hello All,
The Asians were back in force this morning, with several of them managing very good signals during a generous sunrise enhancement. 603-HLSA was back at a vibrant level after a day's absence, along with the 1053-Jammer with its best signal of the new year. This morning was the first real test of the new 15" DXpedition FSL here (with the design photo posted at http://www.mediafire.com/view/zi23102bq3kz50c/15inchFSL-005.jpg ). This 29-pound monster has 111 Russian surplus ferrite rods, and an FSL "point score" (coil diameter x ferrite length) of 3000. It seems to dig out TP audio quite well even from wimpy carriers, and has "bonus coverage" of the amateur radio 160 meter band.
Anyway the session started here at 1250, when the 1053-Jammer was the star of the hour, going on a nice romp jamming the domestic splatter here for about 15 minutes (reaching its best audio yet in 2014 around 1302). Quite a few Asians were already fairly potent by 1300, including 594-JOAK (good), 693-JOAB (good in Vancouver splatter), 972-HLCA (very good) and 1566-HLAZ (very good). Sunrise enhancement around 1330 once again brought up the Japanese NHK signals, especially 774-JOUB, which reached very good audio (in KTTH splatter) around 1335. 531-JOQG came up to a fair level, while 594, 693, 747 and 828 all had good signals in and out. After yesterday's strange absence 603-HLSA bounced back with serious energy from 1325-1340, managing very good signals with its classic American rock (and deep-voiced male announcer). The high band had quite a few vibrant signals this morning, with 1566-HLAZ, 1575-VOA and 1593-CNR1 all having their fair to good moments from 1330-1345. With the!
increasing daylight all the Asians started to bail around 1350, with 594-JOAK the last to fade around 1355. Overall it was a pretty interesting session, despite the lack of anything really exotic. Best signal of the morning (for strength, not content) was from the 1053-Jammer at 1302.
