Hello All,
Well, it had to happen sooner or later-- it seems like Dennis and I were on different TP-DXing planets this morning. An unusually potent sunrise enhancement around 1345 brought in some exceptional low band signals, including the best signal ever received here from the 10 kW NHK1 station 531-JOQG.
The band didn't seem like anything special at the 1305 start of the session, with only 594-JOAK, 693-JOAB and 1566-HLAZ managing fair audio in and out of the noise. Nothing much changed until the first hint of daylight around 1330, when 594-JOAK and 693-JOAB began to build up their strength, and even 531-JOQG started coming out of the noise as confirmation of a low-band Japanese trend. The NHK1 big guns on 747, 774 and 828 also started doing well, along with the Korean big guns on 972 and 1053. Around 1345 a potent sunrise enhancement boost raised 594-JOAK up to an excellent level in and out, and brought 531-JOQG (with the same NHK1 program) up to an intermittent good level-- its best signal in 7 years of TP-DXing here. 603-HLSA also participated in the sunrise romp, managing its best signal so far in 2014 with Korean pop music (and the deep-voiced male announcer) at 1355. As Dennis reported, 648-VOR was at a fair to good level with its Chinese service at 1358, while 657-Pyo!
ngyang also had similar signals with its orchestral music before the 1400 TOH. The high band didn't seem to receive any similar boost, however, with 1503-JOUK, 1566-HLAZ, 1575-VOA and 1593-CNR1 all staying at fair levels (at best) throughout the increasing daylight. The low band Asians seemed to fall off of a cliff around 1410, though, by which time the anemic high band TP's had already long since packed it in. Best signal of the interesting session was from the Japanese low band leader 594-JOAK, reaching very good to excellent audio from 1345-1350.
