[IRCA] TP DX in Seattle on March 17



It was another productive morning for TPs here. There was good reception up and down the dial today, with many stations producing respectable audio. As Gary mentioned, the sunrise enhamcement peaked just before 1400 UTC.

GOOD - A native speaker would have understood most of it, at least briefly

774    JOUB, Chinese lesson //747 1340
850 KICY presumed, finishing "Focus on the Family" 1354, then Christian songs until 1408 fadeout mixing with KHHO, no ID heard
972    HLCA, Koren talk peaking at about 1353
981 CNR1 Chinese talk 1355 sometimes stronger than 972, doing an amazing job getting past CKNW splatter 1557 Taiwan, huge signal 1400 with 3+1 pips, announcements in Chinese, then pop song, 1404 woman in Chinese 1566 HLAZ, 1356-1404 great signal with man & woman in Chinese, then various announcements
1575    VOA, talk in SEA language, "VOA" jingle 1359

FAIR - A native speaker would have recognized a few words and phrases
693    JOAB, Chinese lessons 1342 in CBU splatter
750    KFQD, 1400 jingle ID u/KERR, KTXG running a distant third today
780    KNOM, ID under KKOH 1400
828    JOBB, Korean lesson 1402
1116 CNR5, Chinese talk 1348, switched to music 1357, 1400 Musical fanfare & "Zhongyang Renmin Guangbo Dientai, something zhi sheng" ID by man, then woman with what sounded
like news in Chinese, fair-nil with pots of splatter
1503    JOUK, man in Japanese 1402
1593     CNR1, Bits of Chinese talk poking through KLFE splatter 1343

POOR - A native speakker would have understood little, if any, of it
648    bits of talk in 650 splat 1401, probably VoR
936 China, unid, weak male talk, 5+1 pips ending at 1400:12, then faint Chinese woman
945    CNR1, Chinese talk mostly buried in KJR splatter 1348
963    CRI probably, 1350 talk with Russian like inflections
1017    CRI probably, music then talk 1345
1053    Korean jammer 1349
1098    Unid, male talk, Chinese-like inflections 1353, possibly CNR11
1206 Yanbian, weak talk on 1205.95 that sounded like it might've been Korean 1401 1323 CRI, the usual ToH fanfare 1400, then talk in presumed Russian tho too weak to say for sure
1332    JOSF, weak Japanese talk, chime at ToH 1400
1386    NHK2, 1404 JJ talk //774
1422 Male talk 1407, sounded more like Japanese then Chinese, possibly mixing with a second station 1476 Echoey talk 1352, music then male talk 1359, pips at ToH but too much splash to tell number and pattern
1494    Male talk 1405, not good enough to determine language
1539    Faint talk 1402, KXPA-1540 running open carrier at the time
1602    NHK2, 1357 male talk //774, time pips 1400
