At West Dennis Beach about 2 miles south of here, I could routinely get
Turks and Caicos 530 all day before its tower came down in a hurricane.
Distance: 1400 miles.
Second farthest groundwave is WOKV 690 Jacksonville, FL at 1100 miles.
At the West Dennis site it mixes with WADS-CT with my cardioid antenna
null pointed north to take out co-channel CKGM-QC and slop-over from
680 WRKO-MA.
Iceland longwave (189 kHz) just about makes it to the eastern side of
Cape Cod around Orleans and Eastham on about a 2000 mile groundwave
haul.
Early skip around here can include Saudi Arabia 1521 around 1 p.m.
local EST in late autumn / early winter (>5000 miles).
On DXpeditions to Newfoundland, the crew could get midday groundwaves
from as far west as NYC, as far south as Bermuda, and as far east as
Azores - all about 1100-1300 miles. On late autumn DXpeditions, the
former blaster from Norway on 1314 could be heard all day via skip:
about 2200 miles for that one.

It really depends on the time of year, Les. Daytime cx will always be
enhanced
during the winter, especially if really cold temps and/or a good bit of
snow
cover is involved. At this location, my most distant regular daytime
catch, at
450 miles, is KFYR-550 in Bismarck, ND, which I can get when I null out
KFRM in
Salina, KS. That's one I can count on 365 days a year. During the
winter, it's
not been uncommon for me to get Oklahoma City on 1520 in the middle of
the day.
My best daytime catch, however, was made on my parents' southwest Iowa
farm,
which is about 20 miles due east of my current location. That happened
on Jan.
29, 1990, in the form of KKOB-770 in Albuquerque, roughly 750 miles
away and
heard at high noon Central Time. And what made it all the more special
is that
I was able to get a QSL for that reception. :) 73,Rick DauSouth

Subject: [IRCA] Daytime DX
Today was a good day for daytime DX, with a nice mix of stations from
Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee coming in. I remember
hearing a station in Kentucky one mid-day morning, and being pretty
proud of that catch.
I'm curious what others have managed to log during the daytime hours?
Best catch? Tips and/or equipment advice for daytime DXing? My noise
levels here in suburbia are actually lower in the daytime than at
night
unless I want to stay up well past midnight.
