Re: [IRCA] Status of Nearby Stations

WWCS was granted an engineering STA on December 31 which approved removal of the antenna monitor. It is being sent to the manufacturer for repair. It is expected that the repairs will take 60-70 days. The station requested authority to operate at "minor variance" for 90 days pending repair and reinstallation of the monitor. The "minor variance" was not specified. Some engineering STAs for directional stations are granted for nondirectional operation at 25% of the licensed power.

WEMM was granted a legal STA (notification of suspension of operations/request for silent STA) on July 31, 2013. The justification was that the station had been vandalized and "necessary equipment" had been stolen. It expected to return to the air in "a few weeks".

WLGC was granted a legal STA on January 25, 2013. The justification was that storms caused a fire which damaged the transmitter, which led to antenna "maintenance issues".

I am not familiar with these stations. WEMM's "few weeks" have long since gone by. WLGC went dark on October 4, 2012. A station off the air for more than twelve months is subject to having it's license deleted.

Subject: [IRCA] Status of Nearby Stations

Hi All:

Have noted the following lately

WWCS, 540 Canonsburg, PA back in at full strength, sigs equal to WKRC and WCHS here. Had been inaudible (but on) most of last year.

WJAW, 630, St. Mary's, WV now totally dominates WLAP & is actually listenable here. Jawco runs a three-station shopping spree three times a year. On the Christmas one they said they were getting a lot of calls from the "Clarksburg Corrridor," apparently new listeners, so I wonder if this one has bumped power up. Was off one morning in December for "transmitter maintenance."

WEMM, 1200, Huntington, WV still silent. I only hear the New Castle here. They advertise the FM on channel 3-TV, but no mention of the AM in those ads.

WLGC, 1520, Greenup, KY not a peep out of `em here. All I can get on that channel is a bit of WLGN splatter, no matter what rx I try. If they're on, they're running low power into a long wire or something. There is absolutely nothing on that channel here all day. Their FM, licensed to South Webster, OH, is still on and playing cw.
