Happy New Year, everyone.
TP conditions were a bit unusual today. Most of the activity was in the
lower half of the dial, instead of the upper half. The only signals
noted at the high end were weak underachievers on 1566 and 1575.
The DX peaked early today. Most of the stations had their best signals
before 1335. There was little to be heard after that, and virtually no
TP DX when sunrise arrived. My SDR recording started at 1250, which
left me wondering what would have been heard earlier.
Good -Mostly understandable by a native speaker for brief periods
774 JOUB, man & woman in Japanese 1255. Signal took a dive just
before ToH, so no pips heard at 1300, and very lousy signal during
weather report. Back with female monologue 1330 at good level, didn't
sound like the usual Chinese lessons so possibly something special for
New Year's Day. Gone after about 1340.
Fair - some of it understandable by a native speaker
747 JOIB, briefly faded up with weather report 1310
972 HLCA, pips 1300, fanfare, woman in Korean then faded
Poor - other stuff
594 JOAK, time pips & traces of talk 1300
675 Very weak talk 1253
981 CNR1, weak man & woman in Chinese thru CKNW splatter 1321
1566 HLAZ, male talk 1258, otherwise a carrier at best
1575 VOA, talk in Asian language 1314
