Re: [IRCA] Timed Recordings using the SDR-IQ Receiver

Chuck,

At last check ( some versions ago) it limited you to setting up only five recording events. That won't cover the entire time period that I need. I'd really need recordings to start here around 1600 Local and go until at least 0600 Local.

I can investigate SDR-Console, and other software, but my hope was that someone was already doing this and could shortcut that process.

I've long considered purchasing a Perseus SDR, but have no idea how I'd ever manage to review all the data. Even if I only recorded three minutes at each TOH across the AM dial, that still leaves almost six hours of audio to wade through on a daily basis. Just not possible on my schedule, and I doubt it ever will be. Six hours just gets you through the top of one single hour of "real time" on the band.

With the SDR-IQ, recording it's maximum of 190 KHz, I still end up with 19 channels to review, meaning at least an hour to review just one hour of "real time" information.

I'm curious as to how Perseus owners manage the data and review process. The logistics of all that information are just mind-boggling. I get that you can eliminate channels with locals, and possibly most with strong clear channel signals. Or maybe if you've been DXing for awhile, you can eliminate the majority of channels where you've logged them all. But for a guy with less than 1,000 stations in the logbook, I'd be reviewing a lot.

Hard to justify purchasing the Perseus when I think the bandwidth of the SDR-IQ is more than I can handle.

You didn't mention looking at the timed recording feature in "Output Setup" of SpectraVue. Any reason that won't do the job? Chuck

Subject: [IRCA] Timed Recordings using the SDR-IQ Receiver

I'm returning to medium wave, broadcast band DXing after being out of
the game for an extended time. Though I've owned the SDR-IQ for many
years, I've never seriously used it for DXing the AM band.

I'd like to record Top of the Hour (TOH) periods when stations are
required to identify for each hour of the day, starting at just before
local sunset, and continuing all night. Then review these recordings the
next day. I'd like to limit the amount of time recorded to approximately
3 minutes per hour, using the full bandwidth of the receiver. That would
give me 19 "channels" of information to review each hour. That's still a
lot of audio to wade through, but I think it's manageable.

I can't be the only guy doing this, so I wonder if someone could
recommend the best software for this application? I'd love to do
everything in one piece of software, but can run multiple pieces of
software if needed.

I hope other DX'ers will take the time to share their recommendations.
Also interested in hearing how other SDR users handle the logistics of
managing the data, and making time to review it.
Thanks in advance!
