Hello All,
As others have reported, very good Asian propagation was prevailing this morning, with several low-band signals reaching excellent levels. The listening session started off with a bang at 1305 as 738-BEL2 in Taiwan (with female Chinese news) was already fairly potent, the first indication of unusually strong signals from second-tier Asians on the low-band. 648-VOR was also unusually strong with its Chinese service at this time, and at 1325 it reached its strongest level of the season with an apparent Chinese drama (although with some slight noise on the frequency). The Japanese and Korean big guns on 747, 774, 828, 972 and 1566 had exceptional strength during the 1300-1345 period, and the 1053-Jammer was joining them occasionally (although it was being garbled by its Korean-sounding co-channel at times). 972-HLCA produced its usual monster signal at 1345, pegging the PL-380 S/N readout with its Korean pop music and usual YL announcer.
603-HLSA rose up to very good strength at 1433 over its Chinese co-channel (// to a good strength 558-HLQH), and both 639-CNR1 and 657-Pyongyang had good audio in and out during this late-session period. In comparison to the low band the middle and upper band Asians were rather sedate, although both 1017-CRI and 1044-CRI had their moments of good audio during the 1430-1445 period. A search of other Chinese stations on 936, 963, 1143, 1323 and 1377 was not very productive, with only feeble audio in and out of the noise during brief moments. The morning's star performers here were the low-band second tier Asians, with 603-HLSA and 648-VOR leading the way. Since these stations (and the Japanese and Korean big gun TP's) had unusual strength this morning, it's not surprising that Steve and Richard (and other listeners far inland) could hear a lot of them.
