I decided to fire up the receiver this morning for the first time in two
weeks. I was even able to listen for a while in "real time", rather
than rely solely on SDR recordings. Conditions were quite good. The
low end of the dial was productive the entire time I recorded (1255-1510
ut). The upper end of the dial was anemic, especially after 1400. HLAZ
was quite good until the pattern switch at 1345 but that was the one
bright spot above 1210.
The Korean on 603 produced respectable audio for the first time this
season //much weaker 558, which was also making a rare appearance. 756
was interesting at 1300 with NHK pips on the hour, followed by a fadeup
of CNR1 with a nice ID.
Most of the usual powerhouses were in well all morning, except for
JOAK-594 and VOA-1575 which were well below their normal levels.
Alaskans were hard to find today, with KFQD and KYUK the only ones noted.
Good - listenable and understandable by a native speaker
693 JOAB, woman in JJ 1451
747 JOIB, male monologue 1422
774 JOUB, pips 1300, then the usual weather report, local ID 1320.
972 KBS, mostly good-strong 1255-1504 with the usual KK chatter and
pop songs
1566 HLAZ, quite good at times with JJ program 1255-1345.
Considerably weaker after switch to CC service 1345+
Fair - some words and phrases would be recognizable by a native speaker
603 KBS, male talk, then light music 1408, first decent audio of the
season (had traces a couple of times in late Sept)
594 JOAK, time pips and news in JJ by man 1400, quite poor at other times
666 JOBK, 1414, phone interview in 660/670 splash
750 KFQD, 1407 u/Portland w/local ad, "Alaska's .... talk, KFQD" ID,
weather, jingle ID
756 CNR1, the usual "Zhongyang Renmin Guangbo Dientai" ID, then woman
in CC 1301
828 JOBB, man in JJ 1324
873 JOGB, man with weather //774 et al 1308, KIXI-880 being unusually
cooperative. N Korea possibly there as well w/music in the background.
981 CNR1, woman in CC in CKNW splatter 1408
1053 jammer
1170 3+1 pips, theme music, "KBS World Radio" ID by woman u/KPUG 1300
1206 Yanbian, woman in KK then flute mx 1416 on 1205.95
Poor - incomprehensible mish-mosh
558 KBS, music //603 1409
567 JOIK, woman in JJ 1405
640 KYUK, 1400 local anmts completely unintelligible except for the
call letters given at ToH, then unid network news
657 DPRK, bits of talk in 650/660 splatter 1413
675 bits of music/talk 1424-1433, probably Vietnam
684 weak music (fem vocal??) 1352
729 JOCK, JJ talk briefly 1314
738 what sounded like 2 stations 1334, dominant one was Chinese
756 NHK pips 1300 & 1400
864 KBS??, 3+1 pips, then male talk very weak, possibly KK inflections
819 DPRK, music cutting through KGNW splatter 1422
945 CNR1 presumed, CC woman 1356, partial pips 1400 in KJR splash
1134 bits of talk in CKWX splatter 1415
1179 bits of talk, couldn't decide whether it was JJ or CC 1312
1287 JOHR, faded up briefly 1455 with ads in JJ
1323 weak talk 1330
1422 weak talk 1419
