Hi Dennis,

Great job on your reception of 164-Mongolia around 1415 yesterday morning, using your Active whip.

About 2 years ago (during Longwave FSL experimentation) I tried almost every morning to receive Mongolia on either 164 or 209 kHz, and the signals were never very strong. It was tough for me to get any audio on either frequency, although 209 kHz seemed to work better for me than 164. This was before the Alaskan beacon 209-CYT apparently improved its antenna system in 2012, making the frequency tougher for reception of Mongolia. The best that I could manage was the reception of some pretty weak music on 209-Mongolia at 1227 on 9-8-2011, which by unusual propagation just happened to be the same music as that on a barely audible 164 signal at the same time. Nothing really seems to work in trying to get a strong signal on either frequency-- the propagation doesn't seem to follow that of the Radio Rossii Longwave stations very closely, and it seems like once in a blue moon that you can get any decent audio on either 164 or 209. Steve seemed to have much better luck receiving Mong!

Steve Ratzlaff caught my mistake this morning listing Mongolia on 162 instead of 
the correct frequency of 164. Thanks Steve for the correction.

164    MONGOLIA, Ulaanbaatar, MRT1  1408-1415 steady weak signal with male 
speaker. Music at 1415. New station for this location. Best on Active whip.
