Re: [IRCA] B-P-B-P Mystery station on 680 KHz

There are 4 Russian beacons listed here: http://www.classaxe.com/dx/ndb/reu/signal_list

Just received a fascinating recording from famed DX'er Hannu Tikkanen, who records from the top of the world in Lapland using a Perseus SDR and a 3,000 foot beverage. He records in this nearly noise-free cabin location for a week, once per year. Then spends the rest of the year combing through those looking for rare catches.

Today he sent me a recording of KKGR 680 in Helena, MT with three crystal clear ID's. In the background you could also easily hear KBRW in Barrow, AK. But clearest of all is a Morse Code identification at about five words per minute. It sends out B-P-B-P in a four letter group.

Hannu had no real ideal who the station might be. He suspected an Asian station due to the time of day for the recording. At first I thought it was possibly a beacon of some sort, perhaps related to British Petroleum, but it's clearly a four letter group, not a two letter group repeating. Is 680 KHz allocated for radio location or beacon service anywhere in the world?

Any help in solving the mystery would be appreciated.
