Hi Nick,
Thanks for your detailed report from Gabriola today.
<<< 1143 presumed Taiwan, woman in CC 1418UT; 738 nowhere to be found >>>
It was the exact opposite here this morning, Nick. 738-Taiwan had good CC audio at 1355 (with the usual male-hosted call in talk program), but 1143-BEL3 was missing in action all morning.
73, Gary

Nothing like yesterday, I'm afraid, erratic, poorer strength signals
which didn't last so long after sunrise. But, but....I'm pretty
sure I heard AFN on 1575 which hasn't been heard here by me even on
the coastal expeditions so far as I can recall. And I suspect there
is lots of interesting things on the recordings that I'll never have
time to dig out. Two stations on 1161..? Weak, but definitely
there. And I don't think I'm hearing anything Asiatic at 1500UT at
home yet, but today HLAZ, JOHR and CRI-1323 were doing the honors;
they just didn't hang around until 1600UT like yesterday.
pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):
594 JOAK man in JJ 1322UT
747 JOIB EE lessons 1328UT
774 JOUB great oriental /western sounding bowed string music with a
lively bass line after CC lessons just before the pips at
1400UT. Lots of other times at this strength also
828 JOBB CC lessons 1348UT
1053 KK jammer 1335UT
1143 presumed Taiwan, woman in CC 1418UT; 738 nowhere to be found
1287 JOHR woman in JJ 1338UT
1440 JOWF man in JJ, all alone on 310 degree Kaz antenna, 1424UT
1503 JOUK man in JJ //567 1359UT
Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):
279 R. Rossii vocal pop mx 1325UT
567 JOIK man in JJ //594 1327UT
819 N. Korea? operatic singing by woman 1420UT points to this one
but couldn't find any parallels
873 JOGB CC lessons 1336UT
891 JOHK man in JJ //594 1402UT
1062 unIDs. woman talking up to 1400UT, had that slow simple pace of
the ladies giving EE lessons on NHK, sounded EE "please call ...."
then peaking into piano and flute mx after hour, by 1402 had faded
under KK talk by man, presumed HLKQ logged yesterday, which was at
this strength for less than a minute.
1323 CRI woman in RR 1324UT
1422 JORF likely, slow oriental singing by man 1403UT, JJ talk by man
a minute or so later.
1575 AFN? American pop mx mixing with SE Asian talk from VoA
1405UTff Unfortunately when woman started talking EE with American
accent at 1408UT, VoA was about equal and the domestic splatter was
gaining as well. She was back at 1414UT, but still a battle to make
sense of what she was saying, pretty much faded under VoA by 1420UT
with hints afterwards
1575 VoA various folks speaking SE Asian language and generally
interfering with the DX (see above)
not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:
153 R. Rossii woman in RR //279 1347UT
693 JOAB CC lessons //774 1333UT
945 the Japanese dominance continues...NHK1 synchros rather than
CNR1. Man in JJ //594 1352UT
954 JOKR presumed man in JJ 1429UT
1089 unID who is the slow mx, often with female or unthreatening male
singing that dominates this channel when the 1090 splash isn't? No
sign at 1400UT, but both before and after it was there, peaking about
1416UT and 1422UT. Hard to hear anyone talking
1242 JOLF "cuckoo" time pips 1400UT, man in JJ
1593 CNR1 presumed, man and woman in CC 1354UT
Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music) :
1107 man talking JJ inflection 1352UT
1161 CC sounding mx 1354UT
1134 KK sounding man 1343UT
1602 NHK2 synchros vowel sounds //774 1356UT
Strongish het, no or "near imaginary"audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter):
612 711 864 1017 1269 1278 1341 1377 1395 1431 1458 1494 1539
best wishes,
Nick
