Today was my second and last day of DXing at Eld Bay near Olympia, WA.
Conditions weren't quite as good as yesterday, but still interesting.
As sometimes happens, my experiences were different than what others
reported. Gary and Nick both reported signals staying around long after
sunrise today. For me, there was a brief enhancement at about 1350,
followed by a big dropoff in strength, as though someone closed the DX
valve. Stations that were producing reasonable audio at 1355 were
completely unable to produce even faint time pips at 1400. Likewise,
Gary and Dennis had good signals from Pyongyang-657 but I was barely
able to pull much of anything through the splatter.
Here's what I came up with from 1305 to 1412.
Really good audio - understandable by a native speaker, if only for a
little while
890 KBBI, good w/"Democracy Now" pgm o/CJDC until 1359, then legal ID
and marine wx
1575 VOA briefly good in SEA language 1351-1354, with traces of
another station in the background
Somewhat OK audio - a native speaker could make out a few words here and
there
594 JOAK JJ talk briefly F-G 1356, but gone by 1400
639 China, CC talk 1347
747 JOIB, best NHK signal today, CC lessons 1345
891 Thailand, Thai talk 1324, not nearly as good as yesterday
972 Korea fair talk 1327
981 China, fair-poor CC talk 1328
1053 jammer 1335
1566 HLAZ fair CC woman 1354
Bits and pieces of stuff in the splatter
531 Japan very poor //594 1346
567 Japan poor //594 1341
603 Korea, poor KK talk 1345
657 DPRK, tirade barely recognizable in the splatter 1352
693 JOAB bits of talk 1342
738 CC talk fair-poor 1342, probably Taiwan
774 JOUB F-P //747 1346
828 JOBB CC lessons //747 1348 F-P
936 CC talk poor 1348
1359 bits of talk in KKMO splat 1353, probably CNR but couldn't get //
1377 talk sounded CC 1354, probably CNR but couldn't get //
Carriers, some with real or imaginary traces of audio
558 576 612 621 648 666 729 756 783 792 819 864 873 909 945 954 963 1008
1044 1071 1116 1134 1143 1188 1206 1314 1323 1386 1404 1422 1467 1476
