Thanks for inadvertently parallel DXing for us Gary, and I apologize
for the late reply. Emails get out of control when you're DXing
nearly full time.
I was surprised at how relatively poor west coast Asiatic DX was the
morning of our TP audio (I had another DX Fishbarrel running at home,
so could watch conditions there from PEI). Your observation that it
was pretty close to "sunset at the transmitter" for both of us at
PEI sunrise time, was very apt.
The final morning at PEI (2 November), showed Asiatic carriers again
at sunrise, but they didn't deliver any audio. Guess that would have
to wait for a few days until the effects of the minor geomagnetic
upset settle out.
best wishes,
Nick

Hello All,
By coincidence I was checking the band at the same time that
Nick was receiving his TP's during the PEI DXpedition (0944-1006),
and found that conditions were very good during the Asian sunset
period. The usual Japanese big guns (594, 747 and 774) had good
audio in and out, along with the stronger Koreans (657-Pyongyang,
972-HLCA , the 1053-Jammer and 1566-HLAZ). Because of the Asian
sunset propagation 558-JOCR made its first weak appearance here
this season around 0950, without a trace of 558-HLQH (which usually
dominates the frequency here around sunrise).
By contrast the sunrise period here this morning was somewhat
of a fizzle, with only a few of the big gun TP's managing fair to
good audio audio (1566-HLAZ around 1350, 972-HLCA around 1445, and
594-JOAK around 1450). The sunrise session didn't produce any
decent audio from China, or from any second-tier Japanese or
Koreans. It was a pretty mediocre session in comparison to the
vibrant Asian signals from 0900-1015, and another indication that
the band is sliding into its typical November pattern (with the
Asian sunset TP propagation becoming more favorable than the west
coast sunrise TP propagation). For those who ever wondered how the
Ultralight radio group got started, it was because of unusually
good Asian sunset propagation in November of 2007-- which allowed
reception of 3 TP's ( 594-JOAK, 747-JOIB and 972-HLCA) on a
barefoot Sony SRF-59 analog pocket radio.
