[IRCA] TP Sept 17, 2012 / Victoria version

Quite a strange morning, as others have described. Most of the real action was DU after 1330UT, but that didn't stop China from showing up on 639. No luck on 603 this morning however. Again, the low band was by far the best, and it felt like a washout when there was no Asiatic build from 1320 to 1330UT (and little action on LWBC). I feel certain that mining the DU recorded files from this morning a bit more would be very productive using parallels, but who has the time?

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

612 4QR every word understandable, almost coastal quality at 1336 with promo for ABC local radio: http://www3.telus.net/public/shallpat/listen/612%20promo%2017sept1336.wav 891 5AN best at 1344 w/woman talking, but not bad at 1330UT w/fanfare and ABC news announcement

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

576 2RN violin and piano mx at 1338

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be
understood by a native speaker:

774 unID and JOUB mixture of stations 1308, becoming JJ wx broadcast
972 HLCA. KK talk by man and woman at 1346UT for a change from the DUs
1566 HLAZ 1310 w/man in JJ, but also noted 1344UT w/FEBC mention by woman, presumably closing down the JJ program for the day

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

558 maybe DU EE man speaking? at 1340UT
567 R. NZ National woman talking //819 1337UT
594 3WV man talking //612 at 1331, with slight echo to parallel, so slightly offset in time.
603 vocal mx and talking, a mess at 1335UT
621 3RN violin and piano mx //576 1341UT; nice surprise
639 CNR-1; had noticed at 1316UT w/ weak talk, but definitely //6125 at 1336 w/woman talking
747 JOIB? sounded like language lessons 1351
675 man talking at 1311; a little early for the DUs perhaps, though 4QR-612 had shown its nose a couple of times, but cadence of the talk seemed more quick paced and Asiatic than DU EE
738 very messy in splash, two stations at least plus a SAH 1322UT
756 unID two stations, one w/mx one w/man talking at 1327UT; one likely R. NZ National as by 1334 it was //819
819 R. New Zealand National w/woman talking //756
846 2RN piano mx 1337UT //576
963 woman talking w/man then mx 1341UT
1053 jammer 1326UT, nothing like the Puyallup strength
1287 JOHR? woman talking, JJ cadence, 1325UT

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):

954 1098

best wishes,

Nick
