Re: [IRCA] Oregon Cliff DXpedition-- South Pacific UnID's (and Mysteries)

Hi Bruce,

Thanks very much for listening to the MP3 clips, and giving your suggestions.

Chuck also sent me a brief message about 936-New Supremo, which seems the most likely suspect for the Japanese-like music since none of the other co-channels seem possible. Ordinarily a 1 kW NZ station might seem unlikely, but the cliff DU propagation was anything but ordinary. There are some Australian DXers on the Ultralight list who said that they will listen on 531 for the brief slogan in between the rock songs. 639 kHz still seems like a puzzle, since I myself heard 2HC's call-in talk program a couple of years ago (in Lincoln City), and figured that such classic rock wouldn't fit their format at all. The 666 maze was showing up every morning on the cliff, with a Graveyard-like mix of the ABC-voiced lady and at least two other stations at all times. Thanks also for your suggestion on 1503-- because of the English announcer and Kiwi-slanted propagation NZ's Radio Sport does sem like the most likely suspect, but it will still be recorded as an UnID-DU.

A few comments:
-According to their websites, 2PM-531 and 2HC-639 both carry nighttime
talk shows originating from 2SM Sydney.
-I couldn't make anything of your 666 clips
-On 936 4PB is all news, and 7ZR has a talk show at that time. Supremo
may be your best bet for that type of music, since it's all Chinese
programming. They have a schedule posted on their website
http://www.chinesevoice.co.nz/eng_936.html but unfortunately it's in
Chinese. Maybe your wife or a friend can decipher what it says.
-To my ears, the announcer on 1503 has a NZ accent, but I could easily
be wrong. Maybe a native Aussie or Kiwi could comment?

Hello All,

As usual during a major ocean beach DXpedition, several mystery South
Pacific DX stations were received during the recent Ultralight radio
sessions on the 400 foot "Rockwork 4" Cliff on Oregon's ocean coast.
Unlike most of the typical mystery stations, though, most of these
were
received at fairly vibrant levels.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance in identifying these UnID
stations, either by Ultralight radio DXers in Australia or New
Zealand,
or by TP-DXing experts like Bruce, Chuck or Patrick here in the
Northwest.

531- UnID Australian This rock music station was received at a strong
level at 1311 UTC on 8-22, but the only identity clue seems to be a
very brief slogan in between the two songs. 531-PI in New Zealand is
received weakly during the recording, indicating that the station is
definitely Australian. Not too much to go on, but any help from down
under? http://www.mediafire.com/?4xqj1ehqqqdk8s2

639-UnID Australian Mixing with New Zealand's 639 Radio National (2
kW) station throughout the DXpedition was this classic pop music
station at a pretty vibrant level. The station was isolated during the
following recording at 1339Z on 8-24:
http://www.mediafire.com/?rgmmgdwcyg9pcdb
The RNZ relay (// 567, with voice) is heard mixing with the UnID music
station during the following recording:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ez2cb5rqwz3l5vh
The 638-RNZ relay all by itself is heard in the following recording:
http://www.mediafire.com/?xh0a3lburm0wb47
Does someone know if 2HC in Coff's Harbour (or some other Aussie
station) plays this type of music?

666 kHz This frequency was a real circus throughout the DXpedition.
In
the following recording on 8-24 there are two English voices, one
female (presumed ABC in Canberra) and one male, but no French that I
can make out. Can anyone suggest the identity of the male-voiced
English station in the mix? http://www.mediafire.com/?6imldkb1dcfoqt7
This is another 666 recording made on 8-21, hopefully with enough
evidence to dig out a few clues:
http://www.mediafire.com/?afi1itbl4354f4e

936-UnID-DU This bizarre music was received at a vibrant level at
1341
on 8-21 all by itself. The Japanese-sounding music seems strange for a
DU station, and there was absolutely no propagation to Asia at the
time. Does anyone know if the format would fit either 4PB, or Radio
Supremo? http://www.mediafire.com/?klxh8y3qkvs7cd1

1503-UnID-DU Unlike the recording last month at Cape Perpetua, this
one is clearly English-- but still no ID's. Can anyone suggest the
identity, perhaps by matching voices or the format?

Thanks very much for any and all assistance!
