Hi Nigel (and Dennis),
Thanks for your reception reports on the Aussie X-banders, which are
very interesting. I hope that you both can dig out enough audio clues
for positive identification of these 400 watt stations.
On the Cape Perpetua (Oregon) ocean side cliff I had momentary audio on
1701 kHz from one of the Aussie X-banders, and received very helpful
information from David (VK2DDI), including several MP3 recordings that
he made of the frequency from his location in eastern Australia. My
recorded 1701 kHz HPONS station information included an announcer in
English mentioning something regarding Christianity, and according to
David there is only one HPONS station on that frequency that matches
the description (Voice of Charity). I'm still digging through the
evidence and don't plan to claim a logging without more proof, but I
found his assistance to be extremely helpful, and you both might
consider asking for his help to clarify the identification of any
Aussie X-bander.

Here in southern Alberta, the high band conditions were good again
today.
Even more carriers then yesterday, too many to try listing.
Even had 3 of the Aussie X-banders with traces of audio, though the
Voice
of the Australian Chinese Dennis heard wasn't one of them. Did get
bits of
audio on 1629 (on one of 4 carriers showing on the Perseus), 1638, and
1701
(slighlty high) Also traces of audio on 1593. All the audio was
noted
in the 1130-1145 time period. Too weak in all cases to ID. 1638
sounded
Chinese, but couldn't be 100% certain.
