other station is Radio Reloj, but as far as I can tell Reloj does not play
the National Anthem at this time. [Renfrew-NY]
990 BRAZIL UNID, MAR 12 0402 & 0418- Portuguese preacher, probably
one of the Pentecostal networks. This faded in and out for some time. Saul
and I have been trying to match this programming with the Brazil list. With
Argentina in it is possible that this is further south than I would usually
speculate. [Renfrew-NY]

listed. [Renfrew-NY]
990 ARGENTINA R. Splendid, Buenos Aires, MAR 12 0458 - with

suddenly at 0500. This is 5477 miles from here. NEW COUNTRY #76! The
Brazilians logged on 1100 and 1220 the day before are 5011 and 5041 miles
from here. But they are 100 kW, while this one was probably 25 kW (listed
25/5). Kuwait and UAE are my most distant stations. [Renfrew-NY]
990 CUBA R. Guama, Pinar del Rio PR, MAR 12 0500 - National
Anthem, only Cuban station listed. [Renfrew-NY]

possible "Radio Tachira" heard under RCN, but too weak to be sure.
[Renfrew-NY]

sound effects, time check, brief flourish from the national Anthem.
[Renfrew-NY]

morse code ID every minute. [Renfrew-NY]

three stations listed. [Renfrew-NY]
1020 CUBA R. Guama, Bahia Honda PR, MAR 12 0501 - National Anthem
dead-on with timing on 990. [Renfrew-NY]
1030 ARGENTINA? R. Del Plata, MAR 12 0500 - male vocal, into 5+1
pips (all same pitch), flute-like sound effects. I need to compare this
with a Perseus recording from November while in Newfoundland. Neil Kazaross
heard these pips, too. [Renfrew-NY]
1030 UNID, MAR 12 0601 - 3 plus one pips at 0501:40. See 1100 item.
[Renfrew-NY]

Zulia". 0430 - National Anthem heard, but might be another station.
[Renfrew-NY]

"Emisora Atlantico . costa". 0430 - "Emisora Atlantico" and "11:19"
incorrect time check. [Renfrew-NY]

Valle de Mexico". [Renfrew-NY]

anthem begins at 0430. [Renfrew-NY]
1080 VENEZUELA R. Barcelona, MAR 12 0430 - "Mil Ochenta . en
Barcelona . nacional de la Republica Venezuela". This just before the
second National Anthem. The first began at 0426. [Renfrew-NY]

[Renfrew-NY]

then National Anthem. [Renfrew-NY]
1090 MEXICO XEHR, Puebla PU, MAR 11 0245 - ID heard as "HR . verdad",
fax machine sound effects, web site says this is 1 kW. [Renfrew-NY]
1090 VENEZUELA UNID, MAR 12 0430 - National Anthem begins, poor,
three stations listed here. [Renfrew-NY]
1100 BRAZIL R. Globo, Sao Paulo, MAR 11 0245 - Poor under WTAM, but
a nice "Radio Globo" ID and wolf whistle. Relog (so now a pest!).
[Renfrew-NY]
1100 COLOMBIA Caracol, Barranquilla, MAR 12 0305 - "mas compania",
UTC-6 time check. 0500 "Caracol, mas compania" [Renfrew-NY]

then National Anthem. [Renfrew-NY]

[Renfrew-NY]
1110 MEXICO R. Red, Mexico DF, MAR 11 0403 - "Radio Red" ID.
[Renfrew-NY]
1110 VENEZUELA R. Carupano, Carupano, MAR 12 0402 - "Carupano Once"
ID. 0430 - National Anthem, followed by the Estado Anthem for Sucre (yes, I
actually found it on the web, and the sung verses matched! [Renfrew-NY]
1120 MEXICO XEPOP, Zaragoza PU, MAR 11 0259 - "Radio Cinco" and "POP
AM". It took some web digging to see that "Radio Cinco" is a group of
stations. [Renfrew-NY]
1130 VENEZUELA R. Ideal, Maiquetia, MAR 12 0402 - ID (finally).

and "BBC World Service". [Renfrew-NY]
1160 PUERTO RICO WBQN, Barceloneta, MAR 12 0407 - "La Borinquen
Super 1160, la frecuencia". [Renfrew-NY]
1160.03 UNID MAR 12 0306 - Spanish, but mostly too poor to hear anything
useful. [Renfrew-NY]

IDs, wolf whistles, parallel web audio. Brazil #2 here. I'm glad a lot of
others got in on this one, including Neil Kazaross in Illinois. Still
popping in at 0400. MAR 12 0300 - wolf whistle weak through WHKW, so in two
days in a row! [Renfrew-NY]
1220 MEXICO XEB, Mexico DF, MAR 11 0404 - no ID, but mention of
"Instituto Mexicano de La Radio". Interference from Brazilian pest!
[Renfrew-NY]
1290 VENEZUELA R. Puerto Cabello, MAR 12 0430 - Presumed as the
usually dominant of the two possibilities in Newfoundland, with weak
National Anthem. [Renfrew-NY]
1410 UNID XECF, Los Mochis SIN, MAR 11 0259 - Spanish, possible
"XECF" calls heard. Not on the beam with all the Puebla stations being
heard, so tentative. [Renfrew-NY]

Jim speaks: Bruce, I haven't been reporting much this season, because I am
working my way through Perseus recordings from November in Newfoundland.
This is very slow going, but richly rewarding when new stations are found.
I dusted off the Perseus March 10-12 with some major auroral conditions
going on and I am glad I did! The first night was awash with Mexican
stations while the US and Canada stations were washed out. Lots of new ones
noted from Mexico. There seemed to be a "pipeline into Puebla" phenomena
going on. At the same time I was fortunate to spot Radio Globo Brazil on
1220, which many others got in on. A review of the Perseus recordings later
also revealed Globo on 1100, which is a relog (heard during a WTAM outage in
2005). The next night, everything shifted to Venezuela, with some Colombia.
A lot of new ones heard, especially at Venezuela National Anthem time at
0430. Cuba finished out the night, also at national Anthem time at 0500.
I'm using the WRTH Cuba list here, but I need to check a more authoritative
list. In any event, I may have hit every single Cuban province. I know
Cuba is a bothersome pest for many, but I haven't delved into this stuff for
some time. Highlights of the second night included a probable Brazilian on
990 with Pentecostal preaching. The best reception of all was 990 Radio
Splendid from Buenos Aires, Argentina, with an incredibly solid ID several
times 0458-0500. This is Country #76 heard from here, and makes up for the
ones that got away many years ago on 870 and 1630. Completing this report
took most of the past month reviewing my Perseus files. I just looked at
Brett Saylor's summary and realized that I had not converted from EST to DST
in calculating UTC times on my MAR 12 loggings above, so back through my
report to get it right. I logged about 45 new MW stations from these
recordings, including a lot of new domestics on the first night from the
deep south.
Domestic report to follow in a later post.
