At my lake cabin I have an Apex (Best Buy) digital converter...getting
over-the-air TV from a rooftop antenna. Hash is generated that goes right
up the coax to the antenna (and radiates along the way).
I was able to eliminate it by building an "RF Choke"...winding 11 turns of
the coax through 5 toroid rings. Placed the choke right next to the Apex.
You're right; satellite downlinks seem to be relatively clean.
Almost every router I've tried (Linksys/Cisco among them) generate(s) a lot
of hash...and that seems to travel along the associated data cables to/from
computers...again acting like antennas. It's depressing to pass a pocket
portable near these cables.
I'll have to try the "RF Choke" idea on the Comcast cable feed...will let
you know what happens.

Mark,
I have lots of satellite gear, 6 different satellite receivers and 4
dishes in the backyard and if you get within 6 feet of the receivers,
they do generate digital hash, but move away, there is no noise.
No noise detected on the R8 from any of the satellite gear 20 feet away.
The Charter Cable in the neighborhood really causes TVI though. The
neighbors with Dish or Direct TV I get no noise from them.
OK, on the DSL. Routers can be noisy I have read. Not having one, I
have no experience with them.

Patrick
