Mutta korjausten välillä taajuus vaeltelee suhteellisen vapaasti ... On myös muistettava, että AM-lähetteen kantoaallossa on aina mukana jonkin verran oskillaattorin kohinaa ... joten kantoaallon kaistaleveys ei välttämättä ole milliHertsi-tasoa. Ionosfäärin kerrosten nopeiden muutosten vuoksi kantoaallossa voi myös olla taajuusmodulaatiota ... joka leventää kaistaa. Tämän takia esim. WWV ei sovi meillä taajuusstandardiksi.
