Hello All,
It's great that Nigel noticed some exciting Asian signals this morning,
which certainly was a better result than the west coast seemed to experience.
Thanks also to Nick for his comment about "burning both ends of the DXing
candle," a dubious TP-chasing strategy which (against better judgement) was
tried here again this morning. The early session from 0900-1000 featured
fair-good Asian signals around 0900, which promptly proceeded to dive into
the noise in unison within a half hour (although not before the giant loops
were set up, uselessly, in the 29 degree back yard). Before the 0930
propagation swoon there were good signals from the 594, 747 and 1566 big guns,
plus several fair signals on 558, 738 and 1134.
The sunrise session was from 1425-1520, and featured fair to good
signals (in and out) from the "big guns" on 594, 648, 657, 747 and 828. Weaker
Chinese stations on 936, 1044 and 1377 were knocking on the door, but
never came up with decent audio. 657-Pyongyang continues to have the bizarre
transmitter issue that cuts off almost all the high audio frequencies, making
the Korean tirade shouters sound like they are gagged (and practically
limiting the "revolutionary music" to bass guitars). Strong Asian TP signals
continue to be elusive, but at least there is occasional humor to enjoy.
The following were heard on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5"
loopstick) "barefoot" (0900-0930) and inductively coupled to a 9' sided PVC tuned
passive loop in the frozen back yard (1430-1520):
