Hello All,
Asian "big gun" propagation this morning was pretty solid, although
there certainly were no late-session Chinese fireworks like yesterday. A far
more moderate sunrise enhancement seemed to boost the Japanese signals
instead (with 594-JOAK very strong right up to the 1500 TOH), while
yesterday's vibrant Chinese signals were long gone.
The band gradually improved after a dreary start at 1300, with most
powerhouse TP's managing occasional decent audio by 1330. The Korean
religious broadcaster 1566-HLAZ rose up with strong Japanese audio at 1337 for its
best signal since September, while the Radio English lessons on 747 and
828 were vibrant at about the same time. There was no typical mid-session
propagation swoon, although second-tier TP's seemed to be missing in action
until 558-HLQH came in with decent Korean music at 1427, fading in to its
strongest level of the season. The 558 kHz action continued well into sunrise
enhancement, with JOQR apparently joining HLQH for a rare TP mix on the
frequency at 1443. The Japanese "big guns" got a modest boost during this
period, but in a reversal of yesterday's late-session results, all the Chinese
were way down in the noise by 1445. All Asians except for an unusually
strong 594-JOAK were gone by 1500, but that weird station managed its best
audio of the entire morning (and the strongest Asian signal of the DXing
session) right at 1459, during the NHK1 weather report. In summary, the Asian
propagation really wasn't bad this morning, but after yesterday's late-session
excitement, it probably fell far short of what we would have preferred.
The following were heard on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5"
loopstick) inductively coupled to a 9' sided PVC tuned passive loop (in the back
yard). A modified ICF-2010 (30" loopstick) was used as an SSB spotting
receiver:
