Hello All,
Despite the low expectations that most TP-DXers have now developed for the
2010 Season, this morning's Asian propagation was bad enough to make
almost anyone check his radio, and antennas. Walt can be assured that he was not
alone.
>From 1300-1330 there was poor-fair audio from 1134-KBS and 1566-HLAZ here,
but no other TP stations ever made it out of the noise during this
"somewhat enhanced" period. Anyone hoping for a propagation boost after this was
out of luck, as all TP's carriers dropped down into the noise in unison,
leaving a completely dead band around 1400 (when Walt made his check). Normally
when there is a mid-session propagation swoon at least the TP carriers
remain, but not this morning-- even the carriers all fizzled out. The band
seemed completely comatose until about 1435, when audio from a couple of
weird signals finally made it out of the noise-- 1575-VOA (just barely), and
1377-China (which actually produced fair audio in the 1380 splatter, for a
couple of minutes). It was the first session in October that had no audio
from any Japanese station here, and probably a good reason to lower our
seasonal expectations even more.
The following were heard on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5" loopstick)
inductively coupled to a 9' sided PVC tuned passive loop (in the back yard):
1134 KBS3 Hwaseong, S. Korea Wispy Korean speech at poor level
in the domestic splatter around 1320
1377 CNR1 China Fair female-voiced Chinese rising above the 1380
(and 1360) domestic splatter at 1440
1566 HLAZ Jeju, S. Korea Fair Japanese language religious program
at 1318
1575 VOA Ban Rassom, Thailand (presumed) Threshold audio rising
above noise at 1435
73 and Good DX,
Gary DeBock
