vvIn the event that you haven*t heard yet, KHBC 92.7FM (Hilo), KHBC
1060AM (Hilo) and Kona 92.1FM are "dark". This occurred yesterday
morning. All 3 stations have been shut down due to lack of funds and
a large amount of money owed to various entities (i.e. Aloha Radio
Group, Marquee Broadcasting, Korbel Capital LLC, Spring Ranch, IRS
and HI State Dept of Taxation. Scott Parker said he hoped it would be
a temporary closure. A rumor going around (according to the HI
Tribune Herald) is an imminent sale to New West Broadcasting which
includes KWXX-FM, KNWB-FM and KPUA-AM. Chris Leonard Pres/GM said he
had talked with Parker but due to economy that the local marketing
agreement "was not with us".
Parker said all employees were paid and he hoped to reopen with a new
plan and perhaps a new formet in the next few months. Parrott
Broadcasting (Parker) filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization in
January.
