Hello All,
The IRCA reflector seems delayed so it's unclear how others did this
morning, but the Asiatic propagation here seemed to favor China again,
although not at the exceptional level noted yesterday. The Japanese were at
their usual strength but the Russians seemed more vibrant than usual, with
549-Radio Mayak being received here (despite 550 splatter) for an all-time
new TP logging, which was the ninth of the new DX season.
This morning's rather average Asian propagation didn't solve either
of the TP "leads" from yesterday, though-- 639-CNR1 was all alone with fair
signals (and no co-channel) around 1405 this morning, and despite repeated
efforts to duplicate the 1170-VOA loggings made by Bruce and Tom yesterday,
the best that could be managed was reception of an UnID Chinese station
around 1355 in the null of KPUG (which faded out under KPUG at the TOH, of
course). Probably the most unusual occurrence of the morning was a booming
signal from 936-China (presumed Anhui) at 1405, by far the strongest this
station has ever been received here. After hearing the monster 936 carrier on
the ICF-2010 spotting receiver and tuning in to the station on the ULR
(expecting some nice Chinese), I was surprised to hear some American classic
pop music. The Chinese lineup on 918, 927 and 945 kHz were also in weak audio
at the time, but this "team" faded out in unison around 1415, along with
the rest of Asia. In general, it was another interesting TP-DX morning, but
with propagation not quite as exciting as during the previous two days.
The following were heard on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5"
loopstick) inductively coupled to a 9' sided PVC tuned passive loop (in the back
yard):
549 R. Mayak (Russia Synchros) Fair Russian YL speech in 550
