Hello All,
As other Asiatic TP-chasers have noted, there was a definite upturn in
propagation this morning, with three different Korean stations (972-HLCA, the
1053-Jammer and 1566-HLAZ) and 1575-VOA Thailand all having vibrant signals
here this morning. 972-HLCA and 1575-VOA were near typical October levels,
and a few other new frequencies like 756 and 891 kHz showed up with
threshold audio. Not quite up to TP levels like Derek has, but not bad for 90
miles inland :-) This was the first DXing session of the new season with
somewhat inspiring results, and hopefully a sign of better things to come.
The following were heard on a modified C.Crane SWP Ultralight (7.5"
loopstick), inductively coupled to a 7.5" PVC tuned passive loop in the back
yard:
594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Fair-good signals with NHK1 Japanese program at
1305
657 Pyongyang, N. Korea Fair with shouted Korean tirades around 1303
666 JOBK Osaka, Japan In and out with fair Japanese audio from 1300-1315
738 BEL2 Penghu, Taiwan Threshold Chinese speech and music at 1317
747 JOIB Sapporo, Japan Good Japanese speech in KXL splatter, 1322
756 CNR1 (presumed) Threshold speech, apparently Chinese, from 1310-1320
828 JOBB Osaka, Japan Fair Japanese NHK2 program in and out, 1308
891 UnID Threshold weak audio here around 1310 (JOHK usually received
here)
972 HLCA Dangjin, S. Korea Best signals of season so far; good level
with YL
conversation in Korean around 1316

1053 Korean Jammer Buzzing right along at good level during sunrise
enhancement
1134 JOQR Tokyo, Japan Good Japanese signal but deep fades, 1320-1330
1377 CNR1 (presumed) Threshold speech, apparently Chinese, around 1326
1566 HLAZ Jeju, S.Korea Vibrant signals during Japanese religious
program, 1315
1575 VOA Ban Rassom, Thailand Best signals of season so far; decent
audio with
YL-OM news in Asiatic language at 1312

The signals from 972-HLCA and 1575-VOA Thailand were probably strong enough
to be heard at inland states, if any ULR-DXers were trying. Maybe
tomorrow will provide more chances?
73 and Good DX,
Gary DeBock
