[IRCA] TP for 22 Mar from Victoria, BC

Quite an interesting morning here. Nothing too unusual in the strong signals
line, but quite a quantity of signals in the weaker realms, including a number
of Chinese. Unfortunately it was a work morning, but I was up early enough to
get some serious listening in, from 1240 to 1310UT, then again from 1345 to just
after 1400UT, quite a good sunrise peak at this time.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

594 JOAK, but not this strength until around 1400UT
774 JOUB
828 JOBB
1566 HLAZ, best before the pattern change at 1345UT, but still pretty good
afterwards

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

567 JOIK //594
747 JOIB
873 JOGB
972 HLCA
1287 likely JOHR
1503 JOUK //594 peaking at 1401UT
1575 assumed VoA

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be
understood by a native speaker

153 R. Rossii
603 HLSA presumed w/mx, at 1550; had seemed //558 earlier
945 CNR-1 //4460 (oddly, 639 wasn't noted this morning, though a number of CC were)
1017 CRI pan-pipe style mx, //5965 at 1255UT
1053 KK jammer, pretty consistent throughout the morning
1134 assumed JOQR, not //972 or 4460
1323 assumed CRI at 1250UT, seemed //963 at times (which wasn't very strong at
any time)
1332 JJ talk at 1352UT; JOSF assumed
1422 mx; JORF?

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

279 R. Rossii //153
558 seemed //603, so HLQH
612 seemed //594 after 1400; JOLK
702 NHK2 //774
792 mx, DU direction
837 seemed //594 after 1400; JOQK
918 could have been China; SAH on channel also
954 possibly JOKR
963 likely CRI, as seemed //1323 at times when both were up
981 CNR-1 //4460
1008 ?
1152 seemed //774 at 1354, so NHK2
1161 sounded like CC inflected talk by woman; Taiwan?
1188 couldn't get //594; Korea?
1215 ?
1242 JOLF?
1251 good carrier, may have been a couple of stations; think there were CC pips
at 1400UT
1269 didn't seem //1287
1314 big carrier, not much audio
1377 CNR-1 //4460, good carrier
1476 continued mystery here; may have been two stations, but couldn't hear a
parallel with either NHK2 or CNR2
1602 seemed //774, so NHK2 synchros

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):

 621 w/hum, 711, 891 1188, 1278

best wishes,

Nick
