Re: [IRCA] Palm Springs radio update
I used to hear the KARM-FM signal in Tracy on rare occasions. I almost
sprained my ears IDing them. They have a puny signal but the frequency was
empty with the exception of them so I could crank that puppy up and not have
to worry about anything else launching speaker cones in a ballistic manner.
I checked last night after Don's post. KARM was the original call for 1430,
but they were on 1310 and 1340 before that.
The person who bought KCEY and turned it into a SS got himself into a bit of
trouble. He also owned an FM station that had a few translators attached,
and decided that the translators would be better suited to KCEY's AM signal
than the FM which they were licensed to. He also saw no reason to limit
their power or to follow the game plan on antennas either. He had a few
visitors in suits and things got back to normal again.
I remember when McClatchy owned the major stations up and down the Central
Valley and all of the radio was aligned with the newspapers (the Bee, in
whatever major town there was there. Radio was big business. Newspaper was
big business. I guess handling liquidations for either of the above
mentioned is now the big business.
