KBBI is one of a handful of stations I have heard that just go against the
grain of formats.  They're more independent, and that gives them
personality.  That may not pay off commercially, but they build a fierce fan
base.  There is a station in northern California called K-PIG, which is a
distant relative of the obsolete K-FAT.  Anyone who has been in northern
California since the 1970s looks back on K-FAT with respect (and a lot of
head scratching).  There have been several great stations here over
time...probably true for many parts of the country.
