I typically go .40 off the nearest channel looking for TAs. I can tell from the relative strength of the het whether the channel is worth checking, and it's an easy quick tune of the AOR 7030 (Plus) knob.
That said, I was surprised when I checked on a fairly stroing hert on 1089.4 and it 'zeroed" down on 1089 and there was still weak evidence of a further het. I went down to 1088 before it 'cancelled out' - leading me to wonder if I had a weak carrier from Angola (which is 1 KHz off)
Had this one in Newfoundland, but even there it takes actual decent enough cx to come in. I don't know if there's another exp[lanation for what I just noticed. This 'effect' didn't last long, adding fuel to my speculation it was a hiunt of an Angolan carrier.
Might be worth a check for those of you closer to the coast.
Presumed Algeria 531, possible 549, some strong carrier but weak audio on 783, and a couple Euros pinning the dial at times - 756, 765, 1134.
