Hello Nick,
Thanks very much for your detailed morning TP reports, which are very
interesting here (and also thanks to Bill, in Arizona).
The TP propagation around 0930 UTC early this morning was quite good here,
with occasional strong audio on the powerhouse frequencies of 594, 738,
747 and 972 kHz. Unfortunately nothing new showed up, however. This morning
brought severe winter weather in the back yard, making it awkward to set up
the large loop antennas. A quick band check indoors on the modified
ICF-2010 at 1510 UTC didn't reveal anything spectacular, though. Your summary for
the morning certainly sounds accurate, in describing my local propagation.
One minor surprise here recently was the sudden fade-in of 1503-JOUK around
1515 on 12-4 (Friday), bringing with it a weak TP co-channel for a few
seconds. Listening repeatedly to the MP3 with high-sensitivity headphones
indicates that the co-channel's language was Korean, not Chinese. It's
occasional surprises like this that provide some rare DXing motivation, during this
typically mediocre December doldum month :-)

Another morning where the gods of absorption held sway. Checked the band
at 1500, 1530 and 1600UT. The latter time showed only 1575 with audio
traces, while the earlier times showed occasional mumbling on 828 and 774
(possibly parallel, it was that bad), 1134 possibly //972, and 1575. 612
could have been 4QR with the inflection of talk, and the fact that there was
no Japanese, or anything else on 594.
Looking over the SDR-14 files produced better conditions at 0800, with 567
// 594, though not earth shattering by any means. And did catch the V. of
Russia chimes and fanfare in the splatter on 648 at 1200UT, but that was
it.
best wishes,
Nick
