all the while, WWVH was getting whacked by Auroral flutter -
odd hearing Auroral anything in Hawaii -
Here is a sound-byte of JOIB Sapporo on 747khz - as 
heard on the Eton E1 with the Wellbrook antenna...

0900UTC today -- in English no less.
